Aeroseal is solving a large range of problems found in commercial buildings all across the country. Thanks to the non-invasive, computer-controlled process, sealing leaky ductwork in large, complex buildings has become a simple building performance improvement that is lowering operating costs for so many building owners. Aeroseal is also making it quicker and easier for buildings to meet the stricter IECC energy codes, ASHRAE requirements, and LEED certification. Whether it’s improving energy efficiency and indoor air quality or controlling humidity and balancing air flow, our certified Aeroseal professionals can help.
Aeroseal duct sealing is one of the best energy saving improvements
a property owner can make. (from DOE)
Meet HVAC System Performance Standards
Retro-commissioning professionals have listed “excessive duct leakage” as the main reason why commercial buildings are struggling to meet HVAC performance standards, according to a recent survey of building commissioning engineers. Sealing the duct system with the Aeroseal process is the only cost-effective, guaranteed solution for these complex buildings.
Aeroseal has been proven to be less expensive than traditional tape and mastic, largely because it so significantly reduces the number of man-hours it would take to properly seal and test these large systems. It also eliminates guesswork and the need to re-test. The computerized system measures the leakage rate as the sealing is in progress and creates a certificate with a graph of before and after results which can be immediately given to an inspector.
Both existing and new buildings can benefit from Aeroseal’s non-invasive, sealing-from-the-inside method of duct sealing, which is guaranteed to pass IECC code requirements. Priority Energy has an experienced and award-winning team of Aeroseal pros who have sealed hundreds of leaky duct systems. They are trustworthy, arrive on time and get it done right.
Aeroseal Can Help with Building Commissioning Requirements:
Lower Energy Consumption
High duct leakage can cause the exhaust fan to run overtime, which will significantly increase heating and cooling costs. Air leaks in an exhaust system can increase fan use by as much as 95% (ASHRAE). Additionally, excess airflow due to leakage often creates uncontrolled air infiltration through the building envelope or excess outside air intake through the HVAC system, further impairing energy efficiency and building comfort.
Healthier Indoor Air Quality and Safety
Leaky ductwork can spread mold and other contagions throughout a building, creating what we call “sick building syndrome.” Poor ventilation, insufficient air changes (ACH) and pressurization problems, which all cause sick building syndrome, have been linked to duct leakage.
In tall buildings, seasonal stack effect can increase ventilation problems from toilet and kitchen exhaust systems not properly sealed. Self-regulating exhaust dampers can also lead to excessive energy consumption and poor indoor air quality through leaking exhaust shafts.
More Even Air Flow
Evenly distributed air flow to all the floors and rooms in a building will significantly improve the overall performance of the HVAC system(s). It is important that both the supply diffusers and return grilles are properly balanced. Aeroseal is able to seal leaks in otherwise inaccessible duct systems in both new and existing buildings, which will enhance airflow.
Priority Energy also provides testing and balancing service and reports for IECC compliance verification.
Increased Heating and Cooling Capacity
If your cooling or heating is not meeting your needs, possibly due to higher occupancy, duct sealing may be able to meet the increased needs simply by improving airflow and HVAC performance. Consider an Aeroseal consultation before replacing your commercial heating and cooling equipment.
When ducts are leaking nearly 20% of the air they are supposed to deliver to each zone, sealing the leaks should become a priority. Aeroseal can significantly increase the system’s cooling capacity to meet the increased cooling loads. On average, the process seals 80-90% of the leakage encountered.
Certified Low VOC Compliant and has FDA and NSF Approval
DUCTSEAL, the aerosol sealant used during the Aeroseal duct sealing process, has been certified compliant for low volatile organic chemical (VOC) emissions in accordance with the latest LEED standards set by the U.S. Green Building Council. Third-party testing by Berkeley Analytical concluded that the sealant tested below the lowest VOC concentration range of £0.5 mg/m3 for the presence of formaldehyde and other targeted VOCs.
